Alan Jackson is so not punk rock.
Alan Jackson's in town, performing across the street from the planetarium at the River Center. That's the primary conference venue of IPS2012, don'tchaknow. As I was leaving work on Tuesday, I noticed his tour bus, and three or four semis all parked in an empty lot two blocks north of the planetarium. Next to the bus, a couple guys were sitting in chairs, grilling dinner and having a good ol' time. They looked like they were having fun, hanging out, killing time in town before the big show. Last night, I noticed that the semis had moved down to the River Center dock, but the bus and it's oversized trailer were still in the empty lot. Finally, this morning, his tour bus joined the semis in the dark depths of the River Center loading bay.

On the way home this evening, I was passing by the airport when a couple of police motorcycles came barreling out of the access road that leads to the private hangars. One guy stopped all westbound traffic on Harding Rd, another went ahead to clear the road, and two more took off towards the freeway. Behind those two bike cops? Alan Jackson's tour bus. Captain Mullet was never on his bus in the first place! According to his website, he held an autograph signing at a Nashvegas Cracker Barrel the day before yesterday, and according to FlightAware, a Lear jet left Nashville and touched down in Baton Rouge, just a couple minutes before I saw his bus tear towards downtown. Not riding his tour bus from city to city, and taking a lear jet instead? Who does he think he is, U2? Alan Jackson is so not punk rock.

Also hilarious to note, before coming to BTR, the lear jet flew a round trip between Nashville and Smyrna, TN. Those two airports are 12 miles apart. That would be like me flying from my house to work.
